ID Workshop students are guided to tap into the right brain thinking process to explore concepts and arrive at design solutions. The premise is that new ideas come from the unknown instead of the known. Through a variety of projects designed to stretch and develop agility in the thinking process, students find their own solutions.
What we make may come from a place that is unknown and the form may not be recognizable as an already existing object. This is the basis for innovation and it encourages openness to new ideas. With an opening in the thinking process comes an opening in the way we see and they are for design. The question “what is it?” Does not need to be asked. We work with the process of how the object came about and wait to see what develops and what the possible applications in product design are.
